I think Richard should be allowed to express his opinion without everyone taking a giant dump on him
no one thinks otherwise
but if you come onto the longest-running john maus site
and are like 'lol john maus is shit and a fraud and a red'
and people are like 'ok interesting theory guy, how so'
and you're like 'yeah i said he's shit you libs why can't I have MY opinion'
then i dunno, there's no point to that
and it ruins the niceness and shared feeling of here
we're just now falling over ourselves to be nice to someone
who couldn't care less
and he's loving it
just my opinion
sigh

no one is being nice to him. if you are worried about shared feelings, then i suggest you visit a forum where there are safe spaces.

He is allowed to express his opinion, and everyone else can express their opinions by "taking a giant dump on him," and you can express your opinion by lamenting the treatment of him, and I can express my opinion by commenting on the exchange and so forth. Everyone is quite free to share their thoughts. Unless you're interested in setting a well-enforced standard for an opinion to be permitted to be posted (e.g. "all opinions here must have a sound logical basis, and supported by demonstrable evidence," etc.) it's pretty much a free-for-all. You can certainly amend the above statement and claim that fallacies should not be used in argument and discussion, and people were being unfair to richard by using them, but you would have to blame richard just as much as some of the individuals responding to him. Conversely, if he's going to be babied for making silly statements, then that standard should be applied to everyone as well. He is not some poor innocent soul who was treated brutally by a monolithic community of ignorant stalwarts, but that's certainly what he tried to illustrate with his pattern of responses.

I'm not gonna lock this thread and I can pretty safely assume Dean won't, either. Everyone is entitled to post as long as you're not some spambot selling Nikes and diet pills (in which case I will reign hell fire upon your spamming ass). Richard has not disrespected anyone here. No reason to get personal. No one has to agree! Anyway I'm not at all surprised that John Maus continues to arouse strong emotions one way or the other. Discussion is good. Hate is better than apathy. I'm used to people hating my music, from John Maus to Joey Pizza Slice. I just don't really care.
Yup I'm not locking it either. That being said, it is a thread that I'd expect to see on a general music site like "Drowned in Sound". If you're posting on the unofficial John Maus site then you're not going to get a healthy debate... I suspect the original poster knew this.
I'm nervous of supporting richard because I feel like im going to be attacked as well, and I genuinely apologise if im getting stuff wrong here I wasn't reading as carefully as I should. Also - I love John Maus, he is the king etc etc.
That said, what did Richard say that would suggest he found Maus by way of MDE?
I like the part where the writer assumes "richard is probably laughing his head off at making some liberal cuck faggot like me spill no end of digital ink on something he doesn’t really care about."
I'm pretty sure at no point did richard say anything like this.. he didn't call anyone names.. but multiple people said shut it down, called him a real asshole and a silly idiot.
blows me away how people are extremely reluctant to even entertain an idea that they know they will never be swayed by
like what is the risk?
You will start thinking Maus is a fraud too if you hear the guy out?
"richard" was just a way into writing about a topic i'm interested in. the writer (me) said that it was a guess and possibly tenuous and even if i got it wrong there is nonetheless a clear indication enjoyment of JM by a section of the alt-right who love and came by way of MDE and use the language of Jordan Peterson, etc. is clearly established. richard has done nothing to disabuse me of this notion either.
i've seen this kind of random and evasive attack in the manner Butterslice outlined too. people in the alt-right share techniques on how to trigger libs and postmoderns and cultural Marxists.
of course i'll edit the piece if this conversation evolves.
