Re: UK 2017
Oooh nooo, I've just found out a PM I sent to Iris and Poe trying to arrange a meetup before the London show is still in my outbox! Argh! How tf did that happen?!
I did have a look round for Iris but couldn't see her.
Well the show was amazing and disappointing - disappointing because I didn't meet any mausspacers!
But amazing apart from that.
They played Bombs Away! And Edge of Forever! And Touchdown and Castles in the Grave etc. Finished with Pets, which blew the place apart, and of course did Believer for the encore. Venue sold out, but not too packed nonetheless, which was good. Keyboards a bit low in the mix earlier in the set, as is so often the way at gigs, but back in full force for Touchdown, which had a really intense growly energy to it live.
John, of course, as maniacal as ever, compellingly watchable, drenched in sweat by the end. Wild.
Wonder why the band members were all wearing headphones? Perhaps that was their monitoring instead of having on-stage speakers.
Nice and loud - my left ear didn't recover till today.
Bit of drama near the end when an invader got up on stage and 2 security guys appeared from the wings to manhandle him off at lightning speed. John at one point was looking offstage as if to see if the guy was OK. Who knows... a couple of minutes later a third security bod ran across the stage, presumably to help his mates.
Shame I couldn't stay, to perhaps have a chance to meet JM, but I had to catch a very late train from Victoria. Was really pleased it ended on time, therefore. Epic journey home in the cold, didn't get in until gone 2 am. Awesome starry sky above.
And I finally, at long last, saw John Maus live! So great.
