Ricky and his notorious candid photos! Well I have some of my own to post later in retaliation. I look like a gormless idiot here (I'm reminded of some teen who has paused to admire the glossy posters in her locker before the bell rings for third period), and the haunting shadows being cast on my face by the projector light aren't doing me any favors, either. Carrie looks like finally meeting John was so awesome it was traumatic (which I guess is fair). It was great to hang out (and get decently drunk) with Ricky. I think mausspace meets should become a more regular thing. I just got home today, so I will have my photos and videos uploaded soon (although the videos are so huge they will take 50 hours to get online, so please be patient with me).

Yeah, it was definitely fun meeting you guys. I was more than "decently" drunk though. Giving my number to random creepy guys in the subway is when I know I drank too much.

Must have been that Highland Park whisky that was so smooth *gags* I was carrying your bag around all over the city the next day, too, in case you got to the Sisu show. It's a good thing I had it otherwise you could have got mugged/taken advantage of when you fell asleep on the subway!

It was a very strange week. Geneva Jacuzzi was in town and she owed me some CDs, so Carrie and I tracked her down and she invited us up to her apartment. We ended up gossiping on her couch about John and Ariel for a good 40 minutes or so. I've got photos from that, too, but I'm not even unpacked yet, so I will post those when I post the videos.

And not to sound crude or inappropriate LL, but you're super gorgeous in that picture above (which is always the case anyway!) What great restraint there must have been for good ole John boy, hahaha

You are too kind to me, App. Would be lying if I said I wasn't especially well groomed for that occasion! I apologise for the sporadic shakiness of the video and my muffled throat ticklings (I was really suffering with a bad cold- still got it, in fact! I tried to stifle as much as I could. Didn't want everyone looking at that coughing jerk in the front row).

thanks for sharing this

i enjoyed his discussions about modality and horizontal/vertical ways of musical construction
it makes me want to research it a bit
quite ironic that this is filtered through 80's commercial music
i always liked the "this is a calvista presentation" track on the music mix he compiled for rough trade

good to see him having a conversation instead of being interviewed for a change
he may have seemed tense with his fidgeting, but i think he appeared to be more coherent in this footage.. to me at least

Yeah, thanks for capturing/sharing the videos! It's good to watch it again and think about my short but fun stay in NY. I miss that place.

I miss it, too. You should have come with us to Manitoba's. We saw some guy get whipped with a cat o' nine tails by the black-haired, 6 foot tall barmaid during happy hour. Also The National just played that dark, tiny Sycamore bar we drank whisky at. I feel there is a gap in my life because I don't daily see a guy with green hair walking down the street calling girls 'bitches' because they thought it was a wig. And hearing some big lady on her phone complaining 'it wasn't barbiturates.' Oh New York. I need to get back there.
