Re: Videos
Great vids, but I wanted to be closer! I can't wait to get my 14x optical zoom in there for London.

Re: Videos
Dean, thought you might go to the Ghent show, what happened, weren't you planning to?
Kind of looked like an interesting festival -- I'm actually really curious as to how Nick Nicely was... love all his old songs so much. Wonder if he played those or new stuff and how it came off.

Re: Videos
I had hoped to, but I've been out of the Netherlands for family reasons for quite a lot of the year. I have had friends look after my cats, so I'm wary of asking again.... although I know they would be fine... the other reason was that I'd be going alone, which would have sucked. If I was meeting up with someone then that would have been cool, but going to a festival on my own would have not been cool.

Gotcha. You're gonna be at Scala, though, right?

Re: Videos
Here is a link to my youtube videos. I have to apologise for the quality here, but in my defense I was getting totally thrashed at the front of the stage and knocked into the PAs a few times. My legs are nicely bruised for my efforts! Also I was waaaay too excited to just stand there and take videos. I hope you can feel the energy at least from watching these. I know it gives me chills and makes me want to scream and pogo all over again rewatching them.

Monumental. These, out of any others I've seen, really captures what being at a really great John Maus show must be like. I do not, DO NOT know how he does it.

AppTrans: I hadn't seen that one, that was amazing!!!
I just stumbled upon live vid of the first song he played at the FYF Fest in L.A.! It's great. I still wince every time he knocks himself in the head, though. EVERY time.

Re: Videos
Thank you guys for these. These clips are helping to assuage my intense urge for more live shows. I found another video of a "Quantum Leap" performance from last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jnKXXew0z8 (prepare to wince again, P&M!). I bet he wonders why the right legs of his jeans always get holes in.

Yeah, I was there and his vocals weren't high enough.

Two new vids from FYF Fest:
Do Your Best:

Believer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8DXOCQmtg8
I can hear the vocals pretty okay on "Do Your Best." I like it when he plays with the delay/distortion on certain parts of songs, live, especially "Do Your Best" and "Believer," because the distortion pitches it down a notch and adds a whole new eerie ambience.

Oh, and LadyL, I hadn't seen that particular live "Quantum Leap" as yet! Yowza, really good. I wonder how many black eyes he's given himself??

Re: Videos
My camera was going way too much in and out of focus as John moves a lot on the stage, so I only shot two small clips and then I gave up. I had a good seat, a bit further from the stage, but at the same height with the stage, without anyone directly in front of me.
Shot in 1080/24p HD (film frame rate) with a Canon SX230 HS. It's the best small-ish digicam with enough zoom (14x), good low light and most importantly: some video manual control that prove important for live performances (lock focus, flat colors, lock exposure if desired). So if you're going to be shooting a lot of live videos, that's your best bang for the buck at that size and abilities. The jumping-focus problem I mentioned can be fixed by "locking" focus after you have zoomed in at the desired level, but I was just too lazy to do this that night, I preferred to just enjoy the show rather than fiddling with it in the dark. Great stereo audio quality for such a small camera btw, most other small cameras have crackling sound at the loudness of a live performance.
"Pure Rockets", in San Francisco, 3rd Sept 2012. Change quality to 1080p if your computer can handle it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrZziMX99PE&hd=1

Re: Videos
Eugenia, even this little bit of footage shows that you are (of course) even an amazing videographer!! It's so CLEAR! Thanks so much for this. Again, you are such a talented lady. I really REALLY like your collage-work so very much and am thrilled that you have received some interest in it from others than us dorks here, haha
