His show is like an out of body experience. I wonder if he knows how great he is...he is the pinnacle of music today.
Actually I think I'm gonna make an oil painting of him doing his intense claw! 8D

Shameless self-promotion alert - my review of the Pier 84 show:

Probably a lot of waffle (!) but would be grateful if people would read or comment on the site. :D

I love how John's review sits in the middle, you have to give the first act the write-up that they warrant, and naturally with Dan Deacon at the end, you need to throw some words in his direction.... but.... the review is pretty much about John's performance isn't it!

How did the audience take to him? Baffled looks whilst standing still, or joining in with it all?

I know what you mean, it's a Maus article with some other obligatory info!
I wondered what the response would be (went to a free Veronica Falls show earlier and one of the people I was with blasted the audience for not showing enough enthusiasm, "New Yorkers suck, they don't know how to clap!!", but with his insistence, we got an encore!), but there were some pretty hardcore fans at the front, a lot of movement, great atmosphere. I overheard someone talking about how they initially went for Dan Deacon, and they almost hated to admit that Maus had become their new favorite, as if they were making a cuckold of their beloved Deacon.

A 40 minute set? That seems crazy, he usually goes for half that. Can anyone confirm that this is true?

I can confirm that it's not. Although I felt in a complete daze when the set finished, like waking up from a very vivid, violently exuberating dream. I'm sure it was only his usual 28 or so minutes. He said to a fan after that he wouldn't physically be capable of any more than that. Looking forward to reading the review (and writing my own later).

Some Toobs of the show:

Pure Rockets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBy_h-xk7ZY
My Whole World Is Coming Apart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVQv0cu2uKE (I think that's the intro to Castles in the Grave at the end there, is that the first live performance of the song? :))

Seems like it was a pretty good show, and John seems to have taken his shoes off at some point, he's barefoot on Pure Rockets. :D

It may not have been a 40 minute show, but it seams like he may have extended his set with older songs, as well as stuff from ACORAUM. I wonder if he did Bennington, can anyone dig up a setlist? LL, how's your memory serving you? :)

He opened the Hudson River Park show in NYC earlier in July with Castles In the Grave. :)

Currently uploading my (sadly) poor quality videos onto the Toob. It was a really intense show and I was getting pummelled at the front (I've got huge bruises on both knees from being knocked into the stage and PAs repeatedly: my badges of honour!). I really wanted to take great vids for you guys, but I hope you can see how authentic they are from the point of view of complete, crazy enthusiasm from me and everyone else who was there.
The setlist from off the top of my head is:
My Whole World's Coming Apart
Castles in the Grave
Crucifix
Quantum Leap
Rights for Gays
Do Your Best
Maniac
Pure Rockets
And the Rain
All Aboard
Keep Pushing On
Streetlight
Believer

I may have missed some, so will go on the hunt for a proper setlist online later.

John took his shoes off because he very nearly fell over a few times (the stage was a bit sticky with spilled beer!). Was great seeing him hop around like a madman in stocking feet.
I'm going to write a full review later, but in short: BEST NIGHT EVER.
